For the complete rehabilitation of a 50 square meters apartment rue Daguerre in Paris, the client’s main concern was to ensure the coherence of the whole project. With this in mind, we started by working on the spaces and proportions following a “doubling” rule: each room is twice the size of another one.

So we brought down a dividing wall on the street side of the apartment, in order to create a large living room with an open kitchen, with only low furniture. We chose wooden doors that are in harmony with the wooden point de Hongrie floor, so the kitchen furniture remains visually discreet. Along the wall, we set a single shelf to display beautiful tableware and other decorative elements on it, so to bring life and warmth to the room. To add on the general impression of lightness of the whole kitchen, we decided to put the fridge in the wall by designing a framing furniture that slightly stands out of the wall and seems to float in the air. In order to respect the proportions, the fridge is completed with a same sized storage part. The darker wood of the dining table also stops and focuses the eye on the center of the room rather than the kitchen.

The bedroom is minimalistic, as an invitation to rest. A large custom made closet covers the entire wall that separates the bedroom from the kitchen, offering an important storage volume while being almost invisible. The suspended lightning was decentered so to enhance the intimacy of the room.

In the bathroom, one angle of the walls was curve shaped in order to balance the relatively narrow space and strengthen the feeling of being able to move freely in it. The furniture had to be thin so the space would not be cluttered and would remain luminous.

For the whole apartment, we selected natural materials, such as wood, linen or stone for the kitchen worktop, and soft colors, working especially with greens and greys so to create a peaceful visual atmosphere. The brass details (such as the fridge furniture frame, the living room lightning, the wall switches) add some more vivid but elegant touches to the whole.
